Ted Spread joins Nicholls

Ted Spread has left Mark Tompkins' stable in Newmarket and joined Paul Nicholls.

The four-year-old gelding, owned by the False Nose 'N Glasses Partnership, was fourth on his hurdling debut at Ascot earlier this month.

"The horse has just been transferred to Paul Nicholls," said Tompkins.

"He's a good horse. I don't want to comment on it, but I wish the horse well."

Tompkins saddled the son of Beat Hollow to win the Group Three Chester Vase in 2010, after which he was unplaced in the Investec Derby and Ladbrokes St Leger and was fourth in the Great Voltigeur Stakes.

The closest he came to winning on the Flat in 2011 was when he was beaten a nose by Distant Memories in a Listed race at Pontefract in June.

Nicholls is pleased to have this smart Flat performer join his formidable team.

"Nice addition to the string arrived yesterday. Ted Spread," he announced on his Twitter account.
